Makawe-a-Kiwa Tahi – pounamu toki
This is a very special toki carved in a rare inanga/tangiwai pounamu. We have never found a stone like this before. It is very difficult to capture its beauty in a photo on a page, so we went made with it! But you can be assured this pounamu is absolutely stunning.
Tim carved this taonga gently curving so that it has life on your skin. It also makes this taonga perfect for holding in your hands when you need to feel that extra strength in your day. This toki is the perfect piece to wear to the office and then carry on through to a hui or whanau BBQ afterwards.
Pair with its mate for a whanau or friends set carved from the same slice of stone.
Toki had to be strong to endure the cutting and scraping motions of its use. Therefore it has come to be a symbol of strength(particularity in time of adversity), courage and fortitude. Toki were also worn by elders as a symbol of power, wisdom and authority.
⭐️This is a one-of-a-kind taonga by Timoti, so you can be assured your taonga is as unique as you are.
⭐️100m length x 43mm wide
The Story
Kiwa is one of the divine guardians of the ocean and had streams of long hair. The Pacific Ocean is called Te Moana Nui a Kiwa, The Great Ocean of Kiwa. The green and blues in this taonga remind us of the pacific waters with streams of bull kelp at its edge. Hence the name Makawe a Kiwa, the hair of Kiwa.
