Pure Kōkōtangiwai pebble

The rare, precious and beautiful Kōkōtangiwai. This taonga is one complete Tangiwai pebble. When you pick up these small taonga pebbles you know they have to stay just as they are.  They cannot be cut and shaped to suit our plans. This pebble has an incredible blue colouring that shifts and shimmers in the light.  Tumbled and polished by the awa and moana, this taonga feels amazing in your hands.  A very soothing, grounding taonga.

All Tim has done is pop a hole in it, so you can wear it next to your skin all day and feel its presence.  Straight from Papatūānuku to you. Carry her strength with you throughout the day. Hold on to your pebble if you are feeling anxious or frightened. It is incredible how soothing a pounamu pebble can be.

Kōkōtangiwai(often known as just Tangiwai) is the tears Ranginui cried when he was eternally separated from his wahine, Papatūānuku. As his tears fell on to Papatūānuku they solidified into the most beautiful, transluscent pounamu called Kōkōtangiwai.

Tangi is to cry, wai is water.  Kōkōtangwai is a deep sorrow that is never completely healed.  I think most of us carry the memories of a lost loved one who sits deep in our hearts, a sweet sorrow.

Tangiwai is found only in Aotearoa and dwells in the areas of highest rainfall in Te Wai Pounamu. Tangiwai is the most ancient type of pounamu and is in fact a Bowenite rock, with a different composition to the more common Nephrite pounamu you will find available.

Once you hold this taonga in your hands and play with it you will see why these natural pounamu pebbles are so special. Your very own pounamu pebble to be with you on your journey.
