Poro tapatoru – Kawakawa Prism
Tim has really outdone himself with his 3D taonga this time round. And he loved doing them. It is quite a feat to get something truly symmetrical like that when carving it by hand. And Tim doesn’t rule lines and map out his design on the kohatu first. This is entirely carved by eye and feel. Absolutely a labour of love and precision.
And the way he strung it from the top there. Perfect.
The Poro-tapatoru, or prism, has an elemental beauty to it that is simply magnetic. I can’t stop picking it up to feel its lines and solid presence. And just to look at it. It is magnificent. Earthy. Aerodynamic. Present. You really need to see this one in person to feel the full extent of its beauty.
