Te Moana Pounamu Toki
With its golden swirls over layers of blue and green set against a golden beach, this taonga will provide hours of gazing entertainment! A swirling landscape of colour and pattern, this is a truly unique and exceptional taonga.
Tim left the kiri on one face so you can see and feel the raw face of this pounamu. One cutting edge is left open, as if the pounamu is still being hewn from the parent kohatu. This whole taonga has a very grounding and reassuring feel, connecting you to Papatūānuku in her raw form. It is a wonderful taonga to hold in your hands when you are faced with a difficult task or challenging situation.
Toki were one of the most important tools for Māori and were used for any number of everyday jobs such as cutting down trees, carving out waka, digging ground, Moa hunting and food preparations.
Toki had to be strong to endure the cutting and scraping motions of its use it became a symbol of strength(particularly in times of adversity), courage and fortitude.
Toki were also worn by elders as a symbol of power, wisdom and authority. This toki exudes all those qualities.
