Inanga raw toki – large pounamu toki
Have a look through the photos and you can see that one side of this toki has been left in its natural raw form. This allows you to wear its skin against your skin. Feel the strength of pounamu with you through the day. Tim has created this taonga in such a way that you can wearing if which ever way you want to and it looks right and complete.
The Toki was one of the most important tools for Māori and were used for any number of everyday jobs such as cutting down trees, carving out waka, digging ground, Moa hunting and food preparations.
Because the toki had to be strong to endure the cutting and scraping motions of its use it became a symbol of strength(particularly in times of adversity), courage and fortitude. It was also worn by elders as a symbol of power, wisdom and authority.
This taonga combining the raw face of Pounamu with the strength and fortitude of the toki is a truly enduring taonga. A magnificent piece to journey through life with you and be passed on to the next generation.
