Te Kore – deep green pounamu earrings
Māori believe there is something beyond the world of everyday experience, that what we see in our everyday experience is not all there is. This other world is known as Te Kore.
Te Kore is the very beginning of creation – the void or nothingness that has always existed and has unlimited potential for being.
From this void came Te Pō, (darkness and night) from which emerges Te Ao, the light and the world.
When I look at these earrings that’s all I can think of, Māori cosmology creation whakapapa. Initially, they look like complete darkness. But, when you put them in your ears, mārama (light) reveals the world within. Patterns of deep green and black, with speckles and streaks of enstatite and more.
These earrings are incredibly versatile – going to a BBQ, work, fancy dinner or night out on the town, or just want some pounamu in your ears? These earrings are perfect.
I have a pair, I wear them all the time. They have a lovely solidness to them. And on those hoops, they swing and dance in your ears in a way that’s quite mesmerising. These would make the perfect little pounamu gift for the earring lover in your life.
*earrings on model pictured are an example, not exact same pair of earrings.
