Tanekaha – Silver leaf earrings

Every single one of these earrings is unique as they are made from a single, real life, leaf.  I pick them, press them, roll them, saw them out and bring out the veining patterns within – ready for you to wear.  Beautiful taonga from the ngahere for your taringa.

Tanekaha (Phyllocladus trichomanoides) also known as celery pine, is one of the strongest, most flexible native softwoods and was used extensively by Māori.  Tanekaha was used to make double pointed spears, small waka and house structures and the bark was used to make red dye. Tanakeha also had medicinal uses as a liver tonic and as a treatment for dysentery and vomiting.  European settlers also used it for piles, sleepers, roof timbers and bridge decking.  It is an incredibly versatile wood and grows relatively quickly and commonly.  With its fascinating leaves(which are actually extended branchlets), gorgeous red cones and useful properties we think its a tree that deserves much respect.

These earrings twist and move as you do, making you feel gorgeous. And they are a fabulous talking point – people are always commenting on and complimenting me on mine!   Let your individuality shine through with these one of a kind silver fern earrings.
