Pounamu toki earrings

A charming wee pair of pounamu earrings fashioned around the shape of the traditional toki.  Elegant and stylish with beautiful colour these are the perfect pair of earrings to wear every day or to sparkle up your best evening outfit. These earrings have a lovely roundness to them that makes them fun to play with too.

We hung these on 14k rolled rose gold hoops because they make the green come to life and highlight the patterns in the stone. This pair is simple refined beauty.

  • Total length 62mm. Pounamu 44mm.
  • One of a kind pounamu earrings.
  • Handmade 14k rolled Rose gold hoops.
The Story

The Toki was one of the most important tool for Māori and were used for any number of everyday jobs such cutting down trees, carving out waka, digging ground, Moa hunting and food preparations. Because the toki had to be strong to endure the cutting and scraping motions of its use it became a symbol of strength(particularity in time of adversity), courage and fortitude. It was also worn by elders as a symbol of power, wisdom and authority.
