Whiro – Pounamu marama
Whiro is the god of darkness, disease and death. Whiro is also the new moon. This is a time to be cautious and the perfect time to stay home and catch up on rest. It is also a good time to look to the days ahead and plan your path. Because light always comes after the darkness, whiro will pass, the energy will flow strongly again and your energy will be renewed. This is why we should never see Whiro as a bad moon. It is an important part of the cycle of life, we all need time to rest, relax and plan.
This wee pounamu taonga represents Whiro. A symbol to remind us that we must take time to rest. And that from the darkness will come light, from rest will come renewed energy.
If you hold this taonga up to the sun you will see the light make it glow, lighting up the darkness. There are also beautiful linear patterns in this pounamu that I could not capture on camera. When it is in your hands you will see.
A lovely small taonga that would fit your tamariki or the marama loving adult in your life. Simple, elegant, timeless.
