Kikorangi Pounamu on Hiriwa – Rare Blue Pounamu

Kikorangi is a sky blue.  Have a look through the photos and I think you’ll agree that there is no better name for this blue pounamu pendant.

Blue pounamu is rare, and stone like this is a once in a lifetime find. Most blue pounamu will change colour over time as it oxidises. The rind of this stone is the same colour as the inside which tells us that this blue nephrite will not change with age. We have one taonga like this, once these pieces are gone we will be extremely fortunate to ever find another piece like it.

Hiriwa is silver.  This dot was so elegant it seemed only right to string it on a sterling silver chain. In our efforts to care for Papatūānuku and her people we decided a long time ago that we would never buy new silver chains as we do not know under what conditions the silver is mined and proceseed, nor the conditions of the labourers working the chains.  So we scour antique and second hand stores to source our sterling silver chain.

We are just in love with this rare blue Te Tau Ihu pounamu. If you are looking for a gift that is timeless, elegant and absolutely unique than this is the taonga for you.
