Iorangi Toki

This majestic toki has a warmth and energy to it that cannot be expressed in a photo.  With its gentle curve and slimline it is the perfect touchstone, keep it close to your hands and heart.  The beautiful cloud-like, white markings are windows that allow you to see into the stone. These markings are actually feather fractures.  But don’t worry, the pendant is still strong.  Tim cuts along the length of the grain, following the fracture, making the most of these magical feather fractures whilst maintaining the strength of the pounamu toki.

Although longer in style, this toki is slim and lightweight making it easy to wear.  Wear it every day, infuse it with your wairua and let it share its strength with you.

  • Length 110mm x 30mm
  • Strung on adjustable cord so you can wear it at your perfect length.
The Story

Iorangi is the cirus clouds. Cirus clouds are whispy, light and high in the sky, just like the feather fracture markings in this pounamu toki.

The Toki was one of the most important tool for Māori and were used for any number of everyday jobs such cutting down trees, carving out waka, digging ground, Moa hunting and food preparations. Because the toki had to be strong to endure the cutting and scraping motions of its use it became a symbol of strength(particularity in time of adversity), courage and fortitude. It was also worn by elders as a symbol of power, wisdom and authority.
