Māui was a curious man, a folk hero, who performed many amazing feats. In Aotearoa Māui is most well known for fishing up Te Ika a Māui (the North Island of Aotearoa), slowing down the sun so that we can enjoy longer daylight hours, and discovering the secret of fire. Otherwise known as Māui-Tikitiki-o-Taranga, Māui is well known throughout Polynesian culture.
